Starting my career
You may already be in the workforce (whether in energy or another sector) and looking for a change.
Why get a job in renewables?
As the UK Government has plans to achieve Net Zero by 2050 and decarbonize its electricity grid by 2030, renewable energy will play an increasingly important role in keeping the lights on and powering our homes.
The UK’s geography makes gives it a variety of weather – with strong winds and tides and long summer days. This makes it well-suited to harness this weather for renewable generation – particularly through wind, which is the largest form of electricity in the UK. Wind is captured by fan-like blades of turbines in wind farms, which convert energy from wind into electricity via an internal generator. Wind farms in the UK can be build either onshore (usually in rural areas), or out at sea.

Renewable energy apprenticeships and training programs
Apprenticeships are a key route into the industry, or way of upskilling to take on a new role, and are also a great way to earn money while you learn new skills.
You can find apprenticeships for a whole range of occupations – including opportunities near you using the government’s ‘Find An Apprenticeship’ tool.
The following organisations working in the renewable energy sector also offer apprenticeship and trainee programs for renewables:

Upskill yourself with a skills bootcamp
Skills bootcamps are a great way to improve your skills or change your career. These offer flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, and you’ll be offered an interview with the employer at the end of the course. Jobs in renewables can be found under the ‘Green skills’ section for each region. These span bootcamps in energy generation, manufacturing, low-carbon heating, electric vehicles and more.
